I'm going off the beaten path and showing you what you should splurge on.  By splurge, I don’t mean go out and blow your budget but invest in a few home décor pieces that improve the quality of your life and home.  When deciding to splurge on an item, the décor should do one or more of the following…

  • Bring joy to you. When you see an item you splurged on, it should bring  a smile to your face.
  • Enhance your interior environment. It not only looks good but improves the way you reside in your home.
  • Good investment.  If the décor appreciates in value or improves the value of your home, it's worth the splurge.
  • Improve your health and well being. Some items you splurge on can help you live longer.

Items That Are Worth the Splurge

1. A Comfortable Chair That Is All Yours

Do you remember when every room had a bulky Barcalounger? I don’t but I've been in homes that haven’t been updated in 30 years, and there is always a Barcalounger.  Those days are gone but having a comfy chair that you can plop down into every evening is a luxury. Get a piece of furniture that is comfortable, stylish and all yours. This is your chance to go wild with the bold pattern that would be too busy for other pieces

 

 

 


2. Lighting

Lighting is practical and also a way to let your personality shine. 

Swap out dull light fixtures for fixtures that have personality and style. A simple swap of fixtures is usually a low-cost update, and it can transform your space from the cook cutter house with the builder grade fixtures to the house with the designer touch.

 

 


3. Luxurious Area Rugs

Area rugs are a décor item that has a function: warmth & floor protection. If you decide to play it safe with a neutral color palette, a rug is a perfect opportunity to bring pattern and color into the space.

There are health benefits to fresh greenery, and it Brings life to a space. Fresh cut flowers from the grocery store are a simple way to add a touch of luxury to your home.  Placed on the kitchen table or entryway are prime areas for small plants and florals.  They're also a great way to change the color in the room
